Wendy Alexander is urging Renfrewshire residents not to put themselves at risk during the festive season by making sure their Christmas lights are safe.

The Paisley North MSP is delighted that Renfrewshire Council’s Trading Standards department is offering a free safety check on lights purchased before October 2006. 

Ms Alexander said: “Faulty Christmas lights can be a serious fire hazard. 

“That’s why I’m delighted Trading Standards is offering this service. 

“People in Renfrewshire can arrange to have their lights tested by contacting Lynsey Duncanson or Pauline Pinkett on 0141 840 3429.

“Testing is available up to and including 15 December 2006.”
