South Primary School Closure Press Release

Wendy Alexander made her own submission to the consultation on the South School Closure that ends at 12 noon tomorrow.

Wendy Alexander said

“Although the Primary School is not in my constituency I have been approached by parents whose children attend the school.  Almost 100 constituents have contacted me on this matter to raise their objections. I hope their voices are heard and this short-sighted plan is reversed when the Board meets again in December to take a decision.

Amongst all the representations made to me by parents, two stand out.

South Primary has provided a wonderful schooling experience to children with extra needs who have faced bullying elsewhere.  Dozens of pupils at the school have spoken up for its future.  They must be heard.

Given the excellence of its recent HMIE report its closure would signal a move away from the culture of excellence in Primary education which we should be doing everything we can to foster in Renfrewshire.

The Board must listen to parents, pupils and the community and think again”.
